Richard Klinger Factory, December 2006 |
| This factory is another local site to me. We had gone
here about 3 times and just poked around in the warehouses to the rear.
It was generally impossible to get into the factory due to the boards
sealing EVERYTHING on the ground floor. But one chilly December morning
we had a breakthrough! Once we got in we were in awe of the place. It seemed like a maze to navigate and giant in size. A year on I can reflect that it's not that big - but at the time it seemed massive. In there we found a laboratory, several workshops, office space aswell as the actual factory floor. It wasnt until the second trip that we discovered the basement - a deep and dark underground floor. This is one of the hardest bits to navigate. Despite having been down it numerous times, I like to have someone else there, and I also like to have a glowstick in my pocket. Thie site is riddled with asbestos and large quantities of pidgeon crap. Its not a nice place to go without a respirator or other form of protection for your lungs. Unfortunately, in recent months the damage has got severely worst. This coincides with a new entrance being kicked in - ironically right by the security cabin. Talking about security - During the 2 confrontations I've had, they've been calm, VERY reasonable and friendly. One even offering to help take photos... On the topic of the pikey damage - There was a confrontation with Pikeys when I went here with another member of 28dayslater. The pikeys were friendly - But I still wouldn't trust them. They appeared to be stealing the metal, and throwing it over to the "Scrap Metal Merchants" next door. 1. The rear of the tight. The warehouses just past the treeline. 2. Looking out onto nearby woods. 3. Tescos car park next door! Was seen when I took this photo... 4. Obligatory stair shot! 5. The rear warehouse. 6. Corridor leading to the roof. 7. Strangely - There was lots of Christmas related items here! This site's future looks to rest with the Fire Service for training, as Ikea was rejected permission to turn it into a hotel and have an Ikea around the rear. At the moment there is a retail estate being developed just outside the rear fence so its best to be careful. Hi-viz and Hard Hat may help. |
