BUPA Wilmington Manor, 02/11/07

The first time I visited this place was in May, but it was dark and I was very tired - So I had only taken 2 photographs. For months I have been meaning to re-visit but I finally got around to it today with my friend, Spotlight.

After making a rather blatant and obvious entry across the road when all the traffic from the nearby schools [all 4 of them.. 3 x Secondary and 1 x Primary] was going past, it was pretty easy. (Remind me to re-think the time for any future visits, eh?)

We gained access using a new way that had been kicked in..  And found it to be incredibly damaged in there. But it still had a few stories to tell.

Rather touchingly I found a jar marked "Lourdes Water" which made me stop and think about the fact that I was standing in someones flat - were they quite possibly lived until they died. The fact is - this little room was their everything, and you find little notes written by them, and little objects.. Its all very saddening. I found the atmosphere a bit depressing at times. Also, Rather surprisingly - The little emergency box to call a nurse was on in one room!

There was an overgrown garden in the center of the building, as the building is more like 2 squares with the centers being little gardens.

There is another flat on the site which I didnt visit, as I could hear gushing water through the windows. Overall the site is in a terrible state - which adds to the rather sad atmosphere. I find the destruction incredible considering a matter of about 20 meters away is the active part of the Nursing Home... In full view.

Here are some of my more recent pictures:
